Collecting film posters is a great way to encapsulate moments in movie history and keep them alive. People collect film posters for various reasons; for their monetary value, their fantastic images and designs or simply because they inspire nostalgic movie memories. I am what you might call a movie buff that collects film posters for the sheer pleasure of having them. They mark moments for me when I was inspired, thrilled or mesmerized. Collections
My collection of film posters began after I viewed the all time classic
Gone with the Wind. I was blown away by the essence of love and war and
all of the other elements in between that this movie related. I had my
favourite film posters custom framed to ensure their protection and now
they hang on various walls in my home. I have found that giving away film
posters as gifts to friends has really brought me joy, enabling me to
share my passion with others.
History of Film Posters
When I was researching the history
of film posters I found out that movie posters
were never originally meant to be sold to the
public. When film first came about the posters
were distributed in limited quantities to cinemas
that were screening the films. Today these original
film posters are very valuable because of their
rarity. They are sought by many collectors who
acquire them through auctions or private sales.
I have always been an avid movie goer and have accumulated an abundance of gangster, sci-fi as well as vintage film posters over the years. Even if these posters are not necessarily prized by collectors they will always be valuable to me.
