Horror’s Greatest Villains
Man’s fear of the unknown has inspired the creation of some of the most hideous, evil creatures both human and otherwise. Director John Carpenter was on the mark when he said, “Fear is the most powerful emotion in the human race and fear of the unknown is probably the most ancient.” Edgar Allen Poe’s horror stories from the mid 1800’s support the theory that although social attitudes may change, man’s fears remain constant. Many of today’s films are inspired by the works of this legend in horror. Although he was not truly appreciated for his outlandish writings during his time, he is regarded today as one of greatest writers in American literature. A Nightmare on Elm Street When he was set free by the courts on a technicality the parents of the town decided to take things into their own hands and burned him alive in his own boiler room. He came back to haunt the town by surfacing in the dreams of the children whose parents were involved in his demise. Freddy is one of the most terrifying of all villains because he comes to you in your sleep and exploits your worst fears. The seven part series is a part of horror history that will never die! Friday the 13th Camp Crystal Lake came to be known as Camp Blood when a being rose from the icy waters of the lake to kill all who used the camp grounds. Jason is the embodiment of the bogey man, someone who lurks in the darkness waiting to pounce without warning to slay his next victim.
Freddy vs Jason The Story When Jason starts getting a little too greedy, Freddy decides to get rid of the evil that he re-created. This sets the stage for the ultimate battle between the two villains that begins in the land of nightmares and ends at Camp Crystal Lake. “All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream.” Edgar Allen Poe
