Audrey Hepburn
Undeniably one of the greatest actresses to ever grace the silver screen, Audrey Hepburn delighted audiences. Born in Brussels, Belgium, on May 4, 1929, Hepburn was a “blueblood”. Her father was a wealthy English banker and her mother, a Dutch baroness. She suffered through the Second World War living with her mother in Holland. When the war was over, she began a modeling career in London. Modeling soon turned into acting with her first speaking role in 1951 in Young Wives’ Tale. She moved to the US where she was quickly thrown into the spotlight with 1953’a Roman Holiday, which won her a Best Actress Oscar. As a result, more roles were being thrown her way. Roles in such films as Sabrina, Love in the Afternoon, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s earned her more nominations. But Hepburn decided to retire from film while she was still on top. She appeared in films from time to time, with bit parts. Her last film came in 1989 with Always. She died from colon cancer on January 20, 1993 in Switzerland. She will always be remembered for her grace, beauty, and unforgettable characters. She was named in People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” list and was also one of Empire Magazine’s “top 100 Movie Stars of All Time.”
