Action movies provide a form of escapism that no other genre of film can. Their fast-paced, action-packed scenes get the adrenaline pumping and the excitement level bursting.

The car chases, the explosions, the battles, the rescues…

Many action movies and their film posters have become instant classics. Some of my favorite action film posters are those from the James Bond series.

James Bond
The first James Bond film was Dr. No (1962). Released in a time when there still existed some conservatism with violence and sex, the escapist Bond action/spy pictures appealed to a large audience. The exotic locations, the tongue-in-cheek dialogue, the gadgets, the suspense, and the beautiful women have made the James Bond series of films instant classics.

From Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan, action film fans have been enjoying this series of films and their artistic film posters for over 40 years.

The combination of Bond, girls, guns, and explosions on the film posters grabs your attention and gives an overall impression of the film itself. Over time, the Bond film posters have become just as iconic as Bond himself.

Popular Action Stars and Films

Here are some of the most popular action movie stars and their classic film posters:

Tom Cruise - The Last Samurai...'nough said.

Sylvester Stallone - Some of his popular action packed, war-oriented films include First Blood (1982), Rambo: First Blood II (1985), Rambo III (1988). He has also starred as the action hero in such other films as Demolition Man (1993), Judge Dredd (1995), and Cop Land (1997). He has also closed off 2 great series in Rocky Balboa (2006) and Rambo IV (2008).

Steven Seagal - With his expertise in aikido and kenjutsu, Steven Seagal has kicked his way through such action films as Above the Law (1988), Hard to Kill (1989), Marked for Death (1990), Out for Justice (1991), Under Siege (1992), On Deadly Ground (1994), Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995), Executive Decision (1996), and Fire Down Below (1997).

Bruce Willis - He is known for playing the ordinary hero in the Die Hard action thriller series (1988-2007). He can also be seen saving the day in such action films as The Jackal (1997), The Fifth Element (1997), and Armageddon (1998).

Arnold Schwarzenegger - He made a career from starring in action/adventure films in the 80s and 90s like Conan the Barbarian (1982), Red Sonja (1985), Commando (1986), Raw Deal (1986), The Running Man (1987), Predator (1987), Red Heat (1988), Total Recall (1990), and True Lies (1994). His most memorable action role, however, is the unstoppable cyborg in The Terminator trilogy (1984-2003).
